So they let him rot in prison for more than 20 years & then they executed Troy Davis.
I don’t understand this. It seems there was extreme doubt about his guilt or otherwise. In Europe his conviction would almost certainly have been quashed. In fact much as crime, especially the taking of life is wrong, the fact that he may or not be guilty is not the point. It is just wrong for the state to descend to the level of the criminal which is what in fact happens when the death penalty is carried out. If the death penalty is a deterrent, presumably the United States would have a lower crime rate than Europe. This is not the case. In 2010 there were 14,748 murders in the USA. It isn’t a great advertisement for the death penalty. The population of the United States is about 200,000.000 so the chances of getting murdered in the USA is about 1 in 13,000. Not bad odds I suppose, 14,748 murders remains a tremendous amount. In Europe, he would by now, have served his sentence anyway.
